I just deleted my facebook account who's friend's list consisted of my family, coworkers, and people I've gone to school with. While enacting my exit strategy I noticed that you can't actually delete your account. You merely "deactivate" it which renders it invisible and inert until you feel like logging back in and reactivating.

So while clicking through optioned to deactivate my account the website asked for reasons why I wanted to do such. First I clicked "I don't find it useful" but when I did a little box opened under the option and cheerily said "You might find Facebook more useful if you added more friends!" No. fuck that.

So I ended up clicking the "other" option and then, in the space provided I wrote:
"I'm bothered that my only option is to "deactivate" and not "delete". Deleting something sounds far more permanent than just deactivating it and I'm assuming there is a very specific reason that y'all chose one word over the other and I don't trust that. Not that you've ever wanted or needed to earn my trust in anyway. I'm mainly DELETING this account because almost my entire extended family is on here and I'm doing my best to make them forget that I exist and being on here isn't helping. Plus I don't care what type of shoe someone's personality is NOR do I like being SuperPoked and I know I can turn those options off, but this is a lot easier seeing that I dislike most everyone but have the email address of the ones I do like. Thanks Anyway."

I feel a little bit better.
A little.

I still have a facebook account that all the Bears have...but I might deactivate that too. Social networking makes me feel uncomfortable.

You will supposedly find actual "delete" instructions here. Let me know if that works!

And remember, you may be deleted from facebook, but you'll always have an account in my heart. (I'm not giving you the delete link for that. I think it results in death or something).

I remember how everything you uploaded to facebook is technically became theirs. This was years ago. I don't know how that works now

I totally understand where you are coming from. It's like a dangerous border of family and my wild as friends. Not that I censor what is said, but sometimes i worry what could be said, so i may or may not post a status update. It's great to reconnect from high school, but the random requests and quizzes are enough to make you go insane.

Glad you feel better.
Facebook is still "there" though.
There's plenty of stuff on Facebook that is easy enough to ignore but, since they have made it more like Twitter ... Facebook certainly has been emphasizing the "twit" element.

I enjoy my friend's updates and posts there ... it's kind of like "LJ Lite." All the taste and fewer calories. However, one of my "friends" had engaged in an Easter Egg hunt that reaped havoc with my "home" page as I would have to search around 10-15 posts that read:

So and so found the #048 Egg. Type: Common. Collection: Classic.
So and so found this Egg in the Classic Egg Collection, hidden by Such and such
There are 101 Common, Uncommon and Rare Eggs to be found in 2 Egg Collections: Classic & Myth and Magic.

I believe So and so is trying to find all 101.

Let me tell you , a lot of murders used face book to kidnapped people. Its very common in latino america. You was rigth!!! I don't use pictures also i'am not an important guy on my social networking, just regular updates here. Neither private information about family, cause they are far from me on distance not on mind or hearth.

I'am happy to know from you here, and i hope still reading your nice stuff.

you have a safe and beautiful day.

Big, Big Hugs

It's funny how many people I know who are "deactivating" their facebook accounts. Now that a bunch of my relatives are on it, including my mom, I find myself censoring what I say more and more, and that sort of defeats the purpose of having it. But I guess there's always locked livejournal posts for bitching about my family.
