I ignored my two new books and just sat and stared out the window for the whole seven and a half hours. Not sleeping well the night before, my eyes would close every so often and I would sleep until the train would hit a streach of track that cause it to wobble a bit and I would end up wacking my face into the window and wake up. The two girl across the aisle from me also napped and used their wool coats as blankets and whispered to one another in hindi. It snowed while we were in D.C. Large white puffy flakes stuck to all the windows as we sat in the station. It looked like everyone outside was smoking, but it was really just their breath.

Sitting a row in front of me and to the right was a little boy and his mother. His name was "Sebastian" so I'm pretending his mother's name was "Victoria" and that they had a lot of money because, why else would you name your child "Sebastian"? The man and woman behind me had just met eachother and were making small talk about their spouses and winters in Albuquerque. I pretended that over the course of their train ride to Chicago, they would fall madly in love with eachother and consummate their relationship by trysting in the snack food car.
I also pretended that the two hindi girls sitting across the aisle from me were napping indian princesses on the run because of their steamy lesbian love affair.

I think about stuff like that when I sit for seven and a half hours and do nothing but look out the windows and try to keep my eyes from focusing on each and every individual tree as they go whizzing by. Maybe next time I'll just read my books.

actually, what it sounds like you should do on trips like these is to bring a small notebook and write a short story for each of these things you see. and i mean short, maybe a couple paragraphs for an individual encounter. and then when yer done with the trip, you'd have this li'l book of snapshots capturing the things going through your head as you wandered about the world that one time.

*shrug*

just a suggestion.

Ya know, I used to do that. The two times I went to Europe I had a note book and did little snippet entry things, but after a bit I get distracted and stop writing. My brain things faster than my hands can write so I lose interest and end up drawing ladies with big boobs all over the place. I, however, type faster than I write so I try to just remember things and then rehash them online.

I would have written in my sketchbook, but it's 11X14 and a tad bit bulky. Maybe I need to get myself something a bit smaller.

What? You aren't going to sit under his desk and touch him inappropriately while he is trying to learn? Because that totally sounds like something you would do.

I tried but I wouldn't fit. ::sadness:: so I'm here at his apartment. I think I might run around and rub my man-stain on things.

Sounds like the train ride was magic, or at least you made it so. Traveling by train is so much cooler than by plane.

You probably could write good stories. You obviously do have the imagination and the writing skills.

Especially when you're on a fast train like the Acela Express. From DC to NY in under 3 hours is just awesome any way you slice it. My last stint on an Acela was in 2003. It's been way too long; I gotta get back there.

I haven't been taking the Acela recently because it's always like $25 more expensive and I'm cheap. Very very cheap.

I've been taking the train over flying for a few reasons.
1) it's a bit cheaper
2) leg room leg room leg room

I love having leg room and retaining feeling in the bootm half of my body. I dunno...I just like it.
